Melissa is a STOTT trained Pilates instructor and a licensed clinical psychologist in independent practice She first tried pilates in 2005 after a knee injury and her doctor’s subsequent caution that if she continued long distance running, she would need a total knee replacement by age 50. Looking for a new form of exercise that could provide a similar physical challenge along with the mindfulness and meditative state of long distance running, she increased her yoga practice and began taking Pilates classes. “Pilates transformed me,” Melissa believes. “Like nothing else I had ever tried, Pilates changed my mind as well as my physical body.” Pilates’ focus on quality of movement over quantity was a new mindset that quickly proved itself very effective. She quickly came to believe the Joseph Pilates’ assertion: “In 10 sessions you will feel the difference; in 20 sessions you will see the difference; and in 30 sessions you will have a new body.”
