As a bruja, curandera, intuitive healer, transformational coach, and magical real writer--I am so excited to share my decade’s worth of experience teaching, mentoring, and coaching poets and writers, high school and college students, girls, femmes, women, and marginalized folks with you. I’ve given readings, talks, and workshops nationwide, both on the stage and virtually, on topics ranging from folk magick, curanderisma, brujeria, and energy healing to body image, overcoming shame, entrepreneurship, personal empowerment, and rising from the ashes of traumatic experiences, disappointment, and grief, to poetics, novel crafting, and succeeding in the publishing industry as a Latina woman from the Mexicali border. Students, faculty, and staff often share with me how inspiring and empowering my talks are, and I’m often invited back to speak for subsequent events. My own story is part and parcel of my vision of success and why I believe so deeply in helping others reach their goals, particularly those from marginalized communities. I would love to help your folks, your students, or your team create their best selves, reach their wildest dreams, and polish their most beautiful creative work! And most of all, I inspire women who come from any circumstances to rise up and use our voices for change in this world. I am a Mexican-American poet and novelist (author of Trinity Sight and Jubilee), who grew up in the Imperial Valley, a small, border community in the Southern California desert. My family has ancestral ties to the indigenous peoples of New Mexico and Texas, including Ysleta del Sur and the Tigua Indian peoples of the Ysleta region of El Paso. I earned my Master’s degree in Fine Arts in Poetry from Warren Wilson College in North Carolina and my Master’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing at California State University Fullerton, where I was the recipient of the Graduate Equity Fellowship. I have earned a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.
