My massage style incorporates deep, specific work within a Swedish-style flow. I often use lomi lomi, reflexology, acupressure points and craniosacral work during massage sessions as well. I believe that deep tissue doesn't have to be painful to achieve specific goals; meaningful, long-term healing occurs when body/mind are in a relaxed state and in tune with the massage work.
