Mindset matters.

Do you want to continue to move forward in your career? Do you want success on a whole other level? Of course! But, do you also feel like you often get in your own way or talk yourself out of something before you even start it?

I can totally relate.

There are so many elements that can hold us back from our full potential. It’s hard to stay focused at times, and we also tend to put a lot of pressure on ourselves. That combined with the unexpected nature of day-to-day business — and the year we’ve all had — can add up to a mess of reasons why you might question your abilities.

Keeping your mindset strong and healthy is key. It’s the one thing that can either catapult you to success or become an anchor that holds you back from living your dream.

Every entrepreneur (which is exactly what you are) can benefit from strengthening their growth mindset. It takes regular practice and, more often than not, when you take inventory of your thoughts, you’ll find that some negative thoughts have snuck in. If you put effort into letting go of the things that hold you back on a regularly basis, you can strengthen your outlook and affect positive changes in your work and life. Are you ready? Here are four areas to explore if you feel stuck.

1. Negative People / Negative Vibes

In this business, it is so incredibly important to surround yourself with people that support you and always come from a positive space. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to always listen to your gut. Energy does not lie. Most times, we sense a bad vibe right away — we just don’t listen to ourselves because we try to see the best in everyone. You don’t need to avoid these people entirely, but they don’t need to be part of your inner circle by any means. Trust your gut, and only allow people in your circle that are truly in line with your vibes and your mission. 

2. Excuses

Stop making excuses for why you can’t do something, and start finding solutions for how you can make it happen. We are all so guilty of this at times. It’s cold out, so we don’t get up early to workout. Our rent goes up, so we’ll “never” get out of debt. It’s so easy to blame something or someone else for what goes on in your life, but the best thing you can do is take a step back and self-assess.

3. Comparing Your Journey to Someone Else’s

Ugh! This is the dream-crusher. It is so incredibly hard not to compare where you are in your life to the stylist next to you. And then, social media makes it even easier. You see a fellow stylist living the life on Instagram, and you want the same thing — and you want it right now. Just know that your time will come. Stay focused to block out any distractions. Walk your walk, and know you will get there exactly when you should. 

4. Negative Self-talk

Saying things like…”That was so dumb.” “I suck at this.” “I’m bad at money.” The way you talk to yourself will affect the way you move forward in life, and it will also determine how others will treat you. If you say those things to yourself, you open the door for others to treat you similarly. So love on yourself. Be kind. Be patient. Be your own biggest hype-man or hype-woman!


Let go of those anchors dragging you down. Surround yourself with people who want to support you and your dreams. Hold yourself accountable for everything in your life. And, most importantly, listen to yourself and sing your own praises. It’s the only way to start moving forward and creating the life that you truly deserve.
